SHOOTING SEASON
FEW LIMIT BAGS FOR OPENING CONDITIONS NOT FAVOURABLE A record number of shooting licenses have been sold in Cambridge this year, but unfortunately conditions have not favoured sportsmen since the opening of the season on Saturday. There is no shortage of game, but the calm, dry weather has enabled ducks to fly high and keep out of range. A fog has also added to the difficulties of shooters. Early reports had indicated that pheasants were very plentiful in the Cambridge district this season, but since opening day they have been difficult to find. Only odd pheasants are known to have been shot in the district so far. An annual sign of the shooting season is always provided in Cambridge by the thousands of duck which arrive at Te Koutu Park even before guns are supposed to have been fired. This sanctuary is at present the haven of more than three times the number of ducks which are usually to be found on the lake.
