DOMAIN BOARD

RECLAIMING OF LAND PATH ACROSS LAKE With the erection of a path across the eastern end of Te Koutu take the swampy area in the Cambridge Domain will shortly be reclaimed. At a meeting of the board yesterday it was decided to call tenders for the work, which is estimated to eost £lO5.

Those present were Messrs S, Lewis (chairman), J. Hooker, Edgar James, N. R. Souter, G. M. Watt and R. S. Hanna (secretary).

To carry out the work, earth, will be taken from spurs at each end of the path, and as the filling proceeds' bundles of faceens will be placed on the bottom to receive the earth. Six weeks has been allowed in the contract for carrying out the work. When completed a cutting will be made to allow the overflow from the lake to reach the river. It is intended to dry off the swamp area and prepare it for sowing in grass. A feature of the improvements will be that next summer the mosquito pest should be greatly reduced. General Business A letter was received from the Cambridge Borough Council requesting that measures be adopted to decrease the mosquito pest in the vicinity of the lake. Mr Souter stated that two tins of kerosene had been spread around the edges of the lake and the result had been very satisfactory. He had received information that kerosene Would not be injurious to the game. The board agreed to adopt similar measures early next summer. Arrangements were made for the removal of the dead pine at the kiosk entrance. The matter of repairing the Hooker path, which was damaged in the recent storm, was left to Mr Hooker. The chairman reported that a number of oak trees on the board’s property on Hamilton Road were interfering with the Power Board’s lines, and it was decided to make arrangements to have the 7 trees pruned.

Accounts totalling £3O 9/9 were passed for payment.
