TOWN HALL TALKIES

“RETURN OF PETER GRIMM”

LIONEL BARRYMORE IN LEAD “The Return of Peter Grimm” is a romantic fantasy which drives home a lesson on the evils of meddling, and nt_the same time the comforting possibility of a man being able to remedy his earthly mistakes after he has passed into the Land Beyond. This excellent film will be presented at the Town Ijfall Theatre this evening and to-morrow evening. A matinee will be screened both days.

“The Return of Peter Grimm” is adapted from the stage success by David Belasco. From the Great Beyond, Peter Grimm looks back on earth and views the tragedies among his loved ones resulting from his meddling efforts to bend them to his will. In an effort to right his wrongs, Peter returns to earth, but finds himself unable to make his presence known. Only his old collie, Toby, senses his presence. Finally he is able to reveal himself through the efforts ot a dying child who loved him. His loved ones saved from the tragedy which threatened them, Peter returns to the spirit realm, taking the child and the dog with him. Lionel Barrymore is ideally cast as the crusty, domineering old man, and Helen Mack plays the leading feminine role. “A Western Thriller” On Friday evening in support of “The Return of Peter Grimm,” and as the feature at the matinee on Saturday afternoon, will be screened Zane Grey’s new story, “Dude Ranger,” starring George O’Brien. As Ernest Selby, George O’Brien arrives in a far-western town to investigate conditions on a ranch he has inherited. Things have been going wrong and George undertakes to find out why. He assumes the role of a cowboy and applies for work on his own ranch. What he finds first is the superintendent’s daughter who 1 , with her vivacity, beauty and imperious pride quickly complicates the young man’s situation, but finally he routs the rustlers who are causing the trouble.

“Flame Within”

In “Flame Within,” to be screened on Saturday and Monday, Ann Harding plays the role of a girl who wanted a love that could bring only happiness, beauty, ecstasy, but a love uninvited, unwanted, but too powerful to resist, consumed her.
