GREAT SOUTH ROAD

SURFACING WAIPA SECTION MEETINGS IN DISTRICT Tho Waipa County Council is actively campaigning throughout the county in support of the loan proposals for permanently surfacing the Great South Road from Ngaruawahia to south of Tc Awamutu. Meetings are being held throughout tho county and next Wednesday the chairman, Mr S. C. Mucky, will speak at tho Leamington Hall at 8 p.m., Roto-o-rangi Factory 11 a.m., and Kaipalti Hall at 1.30 p.m. Speaking at a recent meeting Mr Macky said he was convinced the ratepayers would not be called upon to contribute any increased rate for sanctioning the £30,000 loan required for the work. He added that the council some time ago had decided to permanently surface other important roads as opportunity offered, and he mentioned the Hamilton-Whatawhata Road, the Puniu Road, just south of Te Awamutu, and at least one road in the Pukckura Riding, near Cambridge, as the ones most likely to be undertaken first, He thought the ratepayers would bei very unwise to reject the loan proposals.

So far Mr Macky has addressed seven meetings, and at none has opposition been experienced, and at some resolutions have boon carried unanimously supporting the scheme and commending the council for its action.
