GRAND FETE
LAST SATURDAY'S FUNCTION. ENJOYABLE AFTEENOON. There was a very good attendance at the grand fete held at the local Convent grounds on Saturday afternoon last, and there being plenty of amusements and entertainment, a very happy afternoon was spent by all present, who entered generously into the spirit of the function, as the result of which the funds of St. Peter's parish benefited considerably. A number of stalls did very good business, while with games, competitions, etc. ,the afternoon went all too quickly for most, and especially the children. Afternoon tea was available and everybody was. well catered for. During the afternoon the -Municipal Band rendered several items that greatly enlivened proceedings.
The children had a very happy time contesting their, competitions for little trophies, while the baby show, greasy pig chase, and other competitions helped retain the interest of those present. Father O'Carroll and his helpers worked hard to make the function a success. A special word of praise is due to the -stall-holders, who were as follows: —Jumble: Mrs Jones, assisted by Miss M. Swann; sweets: Mrs D. Bourke; produce: Mesdames Colvin, Plescher, McDonnell and Miss M. Colvin; fancy: Mesdames C. Andrew, Turney and Ross; surprise, packets: Mesdames McNamara and W. Bourke; refreshments: Mrs McLeod and the Misses Bourke. A feature of the afternoon's entertainment were the musical cantata and several musical items by the Convent pupils, the items as a whole being excellently rendered, and reflecting much credit on the performers' tutors.
