OPENING OP CHATEAU. A MAGNIFICENT BUILDING. The magnificent new Chateau Tongariro, erected on the foothills of Ruapehu, 4000 ft above sea level, in the National Park, was formally opened yesterday. The building has 90 bedrooms, while sleeping accommodation for 30 guests is available in the lodges built in the chateau grounds. The dining-room has accommodation for 30 guests.

The building, which has four floors and a basement, is of brick and concrete. It is owned by the Tongariro Park Tourist Co., Ltd. (in conjunction with the Mt. Cook Tourist Co.), of Timaru.

The buildings and appointments will cost about £IOO,OOO.
