LAWN TENNIS
MAUNGATAUTARI TOURNAMENT. An Easter handicap tournament was held on' the Maungatautari tennis courts on Easter Saturday and Monday, the finals being played off on Wednesday and Thursday last. Keen local interest was manifested as shown by the record gatherings of players and spectators. Practically all events resulted, in keen competition and a most satisfactory standard of play ‘ was attained. Interest w T as sustained' until the very last match of each event, it being practically impossible in every case to pick the winner. The toirrnament has brought into prominence players who a short time ago were beginners, and have • nowi pitted themselves creditably, and in some cases victoriously against more seasoned players. Tennis in Maungatautari evinces signs of becoming ever popular season by season, and its band of devotees show increased zeal to play and improve. Results. Ladies’ Singles: Miss J.
