FOOTBALL
JUNIOR NOTES. (By "Old Player"). The wretched weather 'conditions on .Saturday made the playing of good football out of the question and the Junior games played do not call for detailed criticism. All throe matches were confined chiefly to the forwards. The Karapiro—Mojiavale match played on Victoria Square, was a willing forward game, neither side attempting any combined back play. It was very pleasing to see the newly-forwed Karapiro Club notch another victory arid from present indications are going to be in the running for the championship. The Matangi-City game played at Leamington was a very close game and was contested in a most friendly spirit. Matangi were rather unlucky in the closing stages in not. making a drawn game of it. The Leamington—Horahora, match played on No. '2 ground was marred by unnecessary rough play. From the lino it was.very apparent that the Horahora players were to blame for starting such tactics. A good deal of unsportsmanlike language was also heard by the spectators. It is to be hoped that the referees who are appointed will put down such behaviour with a firm. hand. The game resulted in Leamington placing another win to their credit and it looks as if. this team will have no difficulty in retaining the Junior Cup for the'fourth season in succession. TRIAL MATCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The attendance at the trial match was over 5000. The game was played on u heavy ground, although the weather was fine. At half-time the score was even, but the Possiblos were ahead one point at the end through a last minute try by Steel, with the scores 23 to 22.
