ELECTRIC SUPPLY

TRANSFER OF TERRITORY

KA RAPIRO RETICULATION

At the meeting of the Power Board held last Monday night a report on the conference between representatives of the Cambridge and Thames Valley Power Boards re the transfer of the Karapiro district to the Cambridge' Board’s district was presented. The resolution passed at the conference

“That the Thames Valley Power Board transfer to the Cambridge Power Board, and the Cambridge Power Board accept that area edged blue on the then exhibited plan, together with the liability as shown in the strata-' incut: submitted, amounting to £BB7I, less charges and expenses £.1235 9/, leaving an amount of £7(535 11/ available; the foregoing to be confirmed in writing by the Cambridge Electric Power Board within 30 days.” The engineer presented a very full and detailed report on the project, showing all material required with the costs and estimated revenue for each' of the five sections into which he had divided the area, He had made a canvass of the district and his estimate! of revenue were based on the number of consumers who had actually signed up. The figures showed that there would be a deficiency of £53 per annum but it was considered that once the district was reticulated many more settlers would become consumers, and the deficiency would be wiped out. The chairman, commenting on the proposal, said the Thames Valley Board had no hope of supplying this area under nine years. Mr Oaten’s estimates were conservative, and he felt sure that, although it would not be a money making scheme, they would come out all right. Mr White said Ivarapiro’s interest was in Cambridge, and the area should be included in this district. Mr Wells moved that the area be accepted from the Thames Valley Power Board, on the terms arranged at the conference. —This was carried.

The chairman further moved that the engineer be instructed to prepare specifications for the calling' of tenders for each of the five areas in this district.—■ This was also agreed to. Full arrangements were left in the hands of the chairman and the work will be commenced as soon as possible.
