In connection w'tk the observance of the half-holiday in factories, we published on March Ist last a letter from the Auckland Provincial .Employers’ Association, in which it was stated th a th-

in the event of the half-holiday being fixed for YVodnesday, employers might, if they so wished, give their employees (excepting women and boys under IS years of ago) Wednesday afternoon holiday. The Secretary of the Association now writes us- stating that the ruling referred to applied to factories not covered by awards, and asking us

to mention that where provision is, made for a half-holiday in an award of the- Arbitration Court covering any factory or trade, such award over-rides the Factories Act, and the half-holiday in such eases cannot, be changed by a poll of the electors.
