Mr T. C. Lowry, the New Zealand cricketer, has been awarded his Cambridge blue. Mr T. Black, of Cambridge, has taken over Blyth’s business in Paeroa, and has gone to take up residence in that town.

One of the old pioneers, in the person of Mrs Ellen Graham, has died at her residence in Pukekolie, at the age of 79 years.

The Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, unveiled a. war memorial at To Awamutu yesterday. To-day the Governor will visit To Kuiti and the Winter Show in the evening.

Mr Fred. Baker, of Cambridge, will leave next, week fur "the other side/’ and expects to be away in Australia for a period of three months, where he will undertake a tour with one of the leading musical companies.

An Invercargill message announces the death of Mr ,T., ,T. Wesnov, a prominent public man and an ardent prohibitionist, after a brief illness. Deceased, who was aged (id, had been a resident of Southland for 60 years.

Mr B. C. Carpenter, who has been teller at the Bank of New Zealand, Cambridge, for some considerable time past, left, to-day to take up a temporary position at Auckland, prior to an important appointment for the Bank. Mr Carpenter was a popular officer, whose departure will bo regretted. Ho is. being- succeeded in Cambridge by Mr YY. K. Harty, late of Shannon (Manawatu district).

The death has occurred of Mrs A. M. Skipper, widow of the late Mr J. W. Skipper. The deceased was born at Maketu, being the daughter of the late Captain Smith, and had resided all her life in various districts in the Bay of Plenty. She was in her usual state of health on Monday, and during t.liu evening visited a neighbour, dying shortly after her return home. Mrs Skipper is survived by a family of three sons and five daughters.

Mr Byron Brown, of Otaki and Wellington, has been appointed judge of the elocutionary section at the forthcoming Cambridge musical and elocutionary competitions. Mr Brown is a well-known successful business man, who for many years has made a hobby of elocution, and is an exceptionally gifted Shakespearean student and exponent:. He is a New Zealand champion elocutionist, and has had considerable experience of judging at competitions.

Mr H. YY. SmaWs, of Cambridge, is appearing at the New iStrand at Hamilton this week, m conjunction with the picture display, giving monologues. humorous songs, etc. The Waikato Times reports that ori Tuesday night Mr Smalcs kept the audience i«> a simmer of merriment with his humorous numbers.
