Labour's Ambitions

TO HOLD THE BALANCE OF POWER. Received 12.5 a.m., 17th. London, February 16. The Labour Party, declared Mr Ramsay Macdonald, in a speech at Nelson yesterday, intended during the present session of Parliament to introduce amendments oftener than any other party, and to make demands in,connection with these. If the Government met them, the Labour Party proposed to withdraw their amendments, and if the Tories opposed their withdrawal, the Labour members would vote against their own amendments. He added that, unless they were granted their concessions, the amendments would be carried to the division lobbies. He appealed for a still larger Labour Party, contending that with 100 members the party ought to be able to rule the Commons and turn out governments and enter office itself.
