Dreadnought Armour
Received 6.55 p.m., 10th. London, January 10
The armour of a Dreadnought, says Rear-Admiral Sir Reginald Custance, can be easily perforated by primary guns at fighting ranges, while it is thicker than is necessary to exclude the projectiles of the secondary guns. If armour could be reduced without impairing the fighting efficiency, a great saving would be possible, but the naval authorities of the various Powers naturally shrank from the initial step involving such great responsibility.
