NEWCASTLE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held at the office, Ohote, on Monday. There were present:— Messrs E. C. Shepherd, chairman, W. Clow, J. Duck, R. H. Nicholson and H. U. Poynter. Mr C. McMillan, wrote requesting that a road be made into his land, sections 89 and 91. As these lota are within the boundary of the Tuhikaramea road district, the applicant was referred to that board. The Minister of Public Works acknowledged receipt of letters re grant for metalling Koromatua road. The Health Officer wrote expressing satisfaction at the board’s contribution for health purposes. Mr W. H. Soper, forwarded an agreement re opening the road near his farm when required for public purposes.

Mr A. H. Crawford forwarded details required for obtaining a special loan for making a deviation road in the Horotiu district.—The clerk was directed to take steps to push the matter on, the loan to be for £l5O, and the period 41 years. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. fowarded a memo, re recent purchase of land at Te Kowhai for a gravel pit. —(t was decided to complete the matter.

The Receiver of Land Revenue notified the payment of £lB 11s on account of thirds, and requested that a further scheme be arranged for the balance accrued.—lt was decided to do this. Mr Poynter reported inspecting a crossing leading into Mr W. Gordon’s farm, and suggested that a set of concrete pipes be put in, and the embankment raise! several feet. Mr Gordon offered to contribute £lO towards the work. As the season was unsuitable for doing earthwork the matter was deferred until spring, when it will be carried out.' Mr Saxby asked for assistance in deepening a drain along the Puketo. road, the estimated cost being 3s per chain. Mr Clow reported that a good outlet had been provided. It was decided to contribute half the cost of the work. k Mr Poynter reported putting extra pipes across the road near the W1... - whata school.—Action confirmed. It was decided to contribute 10s towards cleaning Fitzgerald’s road drain. The question of noxious weeds came up for discussion, and it was decided to take action in all cases where notices had not been acted upon. The railway authorities are to be requested to clear the furze from the district road at Havelock hill, near Ngaruawahia. The following accounts were passed for payment:—D. O’Connor, £l7 15s 2d; H.
