DEATH OF MR W. N. SEARANCKE.
We regret to announce the death of Mr W. N. Searancke, which took place at his residence, Collingwood-street, Hamilton, yesterday morning. The deceased has been in failing health for some years past, aud this, coupled with his great age, made the event not unexpected. Mr Searancke came to the colony under engagement to tbe New Zealand Company, aod arrived by one of the first ships which reached Wellington under the auspices of the company. He was attached to the Survey Department, and assisted in many of the early surveys of the lands of the colony. Mr Searancke resigned from the Survey Department many years back, and resided at Raglan lor some years previous to the outbreak of tbe Maori war. He was engaged in trading with the natives. In the early seventies be received the appointment of Resident Magistrate for the Waikato district, a position from which he resigned on pension more than 20 yoars back. Mr Searancke was born in Ireland in 1817 ; he bad therefore attained the good old age of 87. He leaves three daughters to mourn their loss.
