VOLUNTEER CORPS.
A MEETING held in ihe Public Hall, Hrongia, convened by Mr E. H. Aubin, on Monday, for the purpose of funning a volunteer corps in tlit! district, was splendidly attended, despite the stormy weather.
Captain Reid, of the YVuikuto Mounted Rifles, attended, and at the invitation of the chairman (Mr J. S. Berry), addressed the meeting, explainin'; in a lucid manner, all that was necessary for efficient volunteering. It was decided to form a corps, if pos Bible, us a contingent lo the Waikato Mounted Rifle?, to he called the Waikalo Mounted Rifles No. 3, and the list of names of those willing to join, numbering over 50, is to be forwarded to the Government.
It requires only the Government's acceptance, to make the company a real thing. Several present expressed their willingness to become officers, and some four or five names were taken by the ehairm.u).
Captain Reid expressed himself as pleased with the physique and general smartness of the men, and at their request, put them through their facings. Alter a discussion on several matters pertaining to volunteering, a vote of thanks and a cheer for Captain Reid for his kindness in facing the pouring rain to attend from Hamilton, the meeting terminated. —(Own Correspondent).
