(by telegraph—press association). EOYS WITH FIREARMS. Wellington, Last Night. Information has been received that W. Persson, a boy, 13 years, died in Palmerston Hospital to-day, from a gunshot wound, accidentally inflicted by his brother. POLICE COMMISSION. Before the Police Commission this morning, was one Checkett, Avho said that he knew a licensed house in Wellington, which was in the habit of squaring the police by giving them free driuks. Chicketts, who was a fireman in the employ of the Union Company, and has been in and out of Wellington for eight years, gave a quantity of evidence in relation to the alleged drinking and gambling of the police in hotels, also as to members of Parliament drinking in hotels on Sundays. He had been threatened that if he gave evidence an attempt would be made to induce him to leave the town. Mr Taylor said he regretted that the terms of the order of reference prevented him bringing out a quantity of interesting evidence that this witness could give. Commissioner Tunbridge, however, said he would take the statement on his own account from the man and go fully into his charges.
