KIHIKIHI.

o Inquest.—The inquest on the body of the late Mrs Jennings was held before the district coroner, Mr Greshum, and a jury of six, at the residence of the husband, Mr (.!. Jennings, on Thursday, the 18s.li, at about 4 p.m. Dr. Brewis, of Hamilton, was present, and certified that death had been caused by drowning. Several witnesses were examined, but there was no evidence to show how the deceased got iato the water, and after some deliberation a verdict of " Found Drowned was returncri. Funeral.—Owing to urgent reasons, the funeral was arranged for and took place in the Kihikiln Cemetery. Consequently very little notice was given, the relatives being unable to fix the time for the cereniony until late in the day, it being uncertain up to then when the inquest could be held, otherwise more notice would have been given, and many who were not present would have been able to attend. There was, however, a large attendance. The deceased was a member of the Church of England, and in the absence of a resident clergymau, the burial service was read by the local lay reader, Mr C. Ogle. The sad eveut has made a great impression here, and renders motherless a family of several young boys. They and the other relatives —the deceased was a daughter of Mr G. Mackinder of this place—have the sympathy of many friends. Mrs Jennings was so generally noted for her lively manner and cheerful disposition that the sad incident of the last few days can scarcely yet be realised. School Committee. -- The monthly meeting of the Kihikilii School Committee took place in the school on Thursday night last. There were few members present. Several small accounts were passed for payment. It was decided to have the tries overhanging the footpath along by the teacher's paddock trimmed. The fiual meeting of the present committee was arranged to take p'ace. early in April, when the annual icport will be drawn up. Surveying.—Mr YV. Cusscn and party are at work surveying on the much disputed l'okurec block near here, with a view to defining the boundary lines between the different sections claimed by the late contending parties, as allotted by the Native Land Court. So far the survey has not been interfered with in any way ; evidently the interested natives have come to their proper tenses. (Own Correspondent).
