TE KUITI.
■♦ Maori Meeting. During the latter part of last week Te Kuiti was more lively than it has been for some considerable time, the occasion being a monster Maori meeting to appoint two delegates to wait on their representative in Wellington, and lay several grievances clearly before him. The two gentlemen appointed were Mr John Ormsby and Mr Fairburn. both of whom were unsuccessful candidates at the recent Maori election. Races. The Maori race meeting, which was to have taken place on Saturday, the 27th February, but had to be unavoidably postponed, owing to the heavy downpour of rain on the previous night and the eaily part of the forenoon, took place on Monday, Ist March, under coosiderable disadvantages. The course, which had been in parts submerged on Saturday «as very slippery, and made matters rather uufavourablc on Monday. Mr Whare Hotu was the principal winner with Temptation. Spokts Mketisg.—A committee meeting was held on Tuesday evening, when the nominations for the Cup, Hurdles and Half-mile closed, with the handsome number of 36. The handicappers, Messrs Bond, Hunt and Hctit, have declared the handicaps, and I think all those entered should be very well satisfied. The handicaps appear in this issue.—(Own Correspondent).
