SHOCKING CONDITIONS.

DISCLOSURES OF HOUSING SURVEY. MAORIS IN GREYTOWN. Some shocking disclosures have been revealed by the housing survey recently conducted by the Greytcrwn Borough Council. A five-roomed house near the centre of the -town, it is stated, is occupied by no fewer than 20 Maoris. The occupants, whose ages range from 77 years to two years, comprise eleven males and nine females. Five are married, one divorced, one a widow, three single males and ten minors. Every room is utilised as a bedroom, and the living conditions can better be imagined than described. Another building, at one time a general store, is occupied by fourteen Maoris, a good proportion of whom are children. The living conditions in this ease, it is stated, reveal a disgraceful state of affairs. Another disturbing feature of the report is the fact that thirty occupied homes are without a bath or bathroom.
