YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS.

SUGGESTIONS FOR FUTURE ACTIVITIES. FIELD DAYS & OTHER EVENTS. A circular setting forth suggestions for future activities of the Young Farmers’ Clubs in the Wairarapa has been prepared by the special committee set up for that purpose. It is stated that Manawatu Clubs propose holding a Young Farmers’ Week in Palmerston North, to which the members of the Wairarapa Clubs would be i invited. If the Palmerston North week takes place it would be unwise and unnecessary to hold a similar event in the Wairarapa but if for any reason it did not tajte place then a gathering could well be held in Masterton. Clubs are urged to continue to hold field days and to invite neighbouring clubs ?f ttey so desire. It is hoped, later in the season, to arrange one or more trips to places of interest in Wellington and elsewhere and to develop competitions between clubs, to be held annually, for a trophy. Details of judging competitions will be announced later, whereby all clubs in the Wairarapa may compete with each other. In the meantime, clubs are reminded of the judging competitions (entry free) to be held by the Waiearapa P. and A. Society at the Wni'urapa Show at Carterton on October 29. It is suggested also that clubs saculd conduct judging competitions arong their members as opportunity oc-eurs on field days. The promotion of club discussions and debates should be encouraged. Sc/ie clubs have already held debates between their own members with marked success. It ia hoped that all clubs will graduate frem informal discussions to debates and tHjM, before long, inter-club debating cohosts will be a general feature. Clubs should continue to hold social evenings once or twice a year. These are useful not only as sources of income but also as a means of keeping alive the interest of mem< bers and of the district as a whole in , Young Farmers’ Clubs. It has be*a . suggested that club secretaries could keep notes of discussions and papers , presented by club members with the object of collecting together a body of J information relating to the lo?ahty in which the club operates.
