WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION COMPETITION. MATCHES ON SATURDAY. The Wairarapa Basketball Association’s competition was continued on the High School and West School courts on Saturday afternoon. Results were as follow:— A grade: Wairarapa High School Old Girls I beat Stars I, 32/21; lona beat Technical Old Girls. 21/8; Wairarapa High School Old Girls II beat Stars n, 22/11. B grade: lona beat St. Andrew’s, 13/12; Dalefield beat Hospital, 22/3; Greytown beat Wairarapa High School I, 19/13; Stars beat Technical Old Girls, 16/12; Wairarapa High School Old Girls beat Wairarapa High School 11, 21/5. The most interesting match of the day was between Wairarapa High School Old Girls I and Stars I, as these two teams were so i far unbeaten. A very swift, hard-fought contest resulted, in which the swer combination of the Old Girls proves” too much for Stars I. Also Nell Cohen's shootipg was extraordinarily accurate. She brought off at least half a dozen spectacular shots from a distance. This player is playing better than she has ever played in previous seasons. Stars' 'Combination in the forward third was good and D. O’Donnell's hard work at the line was admirable. Individually Stars’ centres were good, but they lacked- the machine-like precision of J. Renner, R. Brown and N. Bennington. N. Mowatt (Stars) is a very promising player and an accurate catch. A. Burgess was outstanding among Stars’ defenders. In the second half of the game, there were too many long passes and dropped catches, but both teams are to be congratulated on the way in which they are keeping up the standard of basketball in the Wairarapa. Miss O. R. Sutherland refereed. The lona v. Technical Old Girls match was slower and not so interesting, but all the same the selectors would do well to watch the lona team, which has improved and contains some very promising schoolgirl players, as well as several who are more experienced. N. Siemonok i(defence) is a strong player and intercepted well. P. Mcßeynolds (forward) is a player who is well worth watching, but she would do well to cultivate two-handed throwing. Miss J. Rayne refereed. The High School Old Girls II fielded a good team against Stars H. One of their new players, M. Moore, is a promising defender. Although she dropped basketball for a year or two, H. Winter is playing a very good game. Miss <T. Rayne was the referee.
