A shock of earthquake was felt in Christchurch about 2 o’clock yesterday morning. There are no reports of damage. The shock aS felt in Christchurch was not severe.—-(P.A.)

Struck by a tram-car while crossing Eden Terrace, Auckland, on Friday pight, an elderly man, Mr. John Willis Robinson, of Gleamore, died in the Auckland Hospital early yesterday morning.—(P.A.) A man whose name and address are unknown was found drowned in the River Avon at 8.40 yesterday morning. He was described by the police as being about 50 years of age, with brown hair turning grey, a full face and reddish complexion, 5 feet 7 inches 'in height and of medium build. A bicycle and cap were found on the bank nearby.—(P.A.) A popular and noteworthy event in the Masterton Y.M.C.A. year—the annual Mother and' Son Tea — is to take place in the Robtfis to-morrow evening. An address is to be delivered by Mr. B. M. Brasted, Y.M.C.A. National Secretary and the usual items and toasts will figure on the programme. All mothers and sons are invited to attend. Tickets may be obtained and seats booked at the Y.M.C.A. Rooms.

A slight shock of earthquake was felt in Masterton shortly after three o’clock yesterday morning. Apparently it was an indication of a shake which was much more pronounced in a number of North Island centres, including Gisborne, Taihape, Palmerston North and Pahiatua. No damage is reported, but the shake is stated to have stopped the town clock in Gisborne.

Reginald Foster Painter, a single carpenter of Darfield, aged 27, received fatal head injuries when he collided with a train at a crossing in the centre of Rakaia Township (Canterbury) on Saturday afternoon. Mr. Painter, who was riding a motor cycle, was returning from a football match in Rakaia and went through a gap in some trucks; Shunting was being done at the station affij although Mr. Painter was travelling very slowly, he hit an engine passing on another line of rails. He could not save himself and it is thought that his head struck the engine about the firebox. Mr. Painter died 40 minutes after the accident. — (P.A.) Schoolgirl boarder wanted.
