MASTERTON ROLL

DECREASE OF 505 SHOWN. COMPLETE CHECK-UP MADE. The general roll for the Masterton electorate, which has now closed, contains 8633 names, a decrease of 505 as compared with the general roll of 1931, when there were 9138 names on the roll. This year a very complete purging of the roll has occupied the attention of officials for several months and this largely accounts for the decrease. Since April 1, a total of 2047 names have been taken off the roll and during the same period 934 have been added. As an indication of the immense amount of work involved it may be mentioned that 6882 enquiries were posted as to residence and 1506 of these came back unclaimed. In addition, 2372 objections were sent out by registered mail, 499 replies being received in respect to these. In 1931 the supplementary roll contained 1149 names.
