ANTARCTIC LABOURS.

heavy work in stowing BIG ’PLANE. LIKE DRYDOCKING A WHALE. (Received Thursday, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, May 2. The latest report from Little America states that men worked all day under pale moonlight lowering the giant Condor into a sunken snow hangar. A ten mile wind made the job difficult. Similar hangars will be prepared for the smaller ’planes. The Condor weighs about eight tons, including two tons of fuel. Easing it into the pit was exhausting work. As one man said, it was like trying to drydock a whale. The barometer was falling on Tuesday and a blizzard was expected.
