CHILLED BEEF

DEVELOPMENT IN AUSTRALIA. MODERN PLANT PLANNED. AMERICAN COMPANIES ACTIVE. (Received Thursday, 10 p.m.) BRISBANE 1 , May 3. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Bulcock, announced that since Vesteys Limited had- acquired the Angliss interests in Queensland they were considering the establishment of a modern plant for chilled beef production at Port Alma, costing £300,000.The two great American companies, Swift and Armours had options over killing works in the north, apparently with a view to developing the chilled beef trade. He added that close observers were inclined to the belief that the entry of American companies into the Australian trade had a much deeper significance than the “imperfect Ottawa structure afforded.”
