BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY.

MISS MAY WATSON FAREWELLED A very pleasant party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T. Jordan, Lansdowne, last night, when members of the British Music Society met to say farewell to one of .their committee members, Miss May Watson, who is leaving shortly to reside in England. A musical programme, interspersed with amusing competitions, created a very happy atmosphere, and the hours passed off too quickly. In presenting Miss Watson with a greenstone necklace, Mr. Jordan said he was sure that it carried the good wishes of every member of the society. Mr. Jordan spoke of the high esteem in whieh Miss Watson was held by the Masterten branch, which owed its existence :n no small measure to her efforts. The presentation was accompanied with musical honours, enthusiastically rendered by the Pipe Band. Miss Watson suitably responded, Farewells were said also to Mrs. Hamber and Miss Parsonson, who are leaving the district.

All three ladies were presented with very beeautiful bouquets. Musical items rendered were as follow:—Piano solos, “Jean Dean” (Ravel), “Heloise” from “On a Lake at Geneva” (Bendel), Miss Holmwood- ‘ Nocturne” (York Bow), “Intermezzo” (Brahms), Miss Watson; songs—“Harbour Night Song” "(Sanderson). “Ladybird” (Schumann), “Waiata 'Poi” (Hill), “The Violet” (Mozart), Mrs. Corkill; “Ships of Arcady” and “The Devout Lover,” Mr. Wm. O. Mann.

The competition winners were Mr. Claverhill, Mrs. Daniell, and Miss ‘M. Mackay. A vote of thanks was passed with musical honours to Mr. and Mrs. Jordan, bringing a most delightful evening to a close.
