AHIARUHE-PONATAHI SPORTS
Arrangements in connection with the annual sports meeting of the AhiaruhePonatahi Club, to be held on the Carterton Showgrounds, on Saturday, February 24, are well in hand. Events added since the programme was printed are:—Dancing, Irish Jig for children under 12 (Miss Brunette’s Medal); Highland Fling for boys under 12 (Mr. Mclntosh’s Medal); and Highland Fling for competitors over 16 fVoars of age. Three amateur wrestling will be staged commencing at 2 p.m. A procession headed by the Carterton Band will leave Carrington Park at 1 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for school children taking part in the procession as follows:—Best decorated cycle (boys), best decorated cycle '(girls), best decorated pram (girls), best fancy costume (boys), best fancy costume (girls). Prizes in each class, 3s first, 2s second. In addition the children from various schools are asked to march in the procession and a silver cup (miniature) presented by Mr. R. G. Kemble, will be awarded to the school whose pupils are awarded the prize for best deportment, marching, and command whilst in the procession. The tradesmen’s turnouts in the procession will also be judged and prize .tickets awarded without cash prizes.
