TEACHERS WELCOMED.
GATHERING AT CENTRAL SCHOOL A pleasant evening was spent at the Central School last night when a social was tendered to teachers who have recently taken up duties in Masterton and the district. Mr. J, H. Fieldhouse, president of the Masterton Branch of the Teachers' Institute welcomed the newcomers. The guests of the evening were: Mr. and Mrs E. G. Coddington (Mr. Coddington is headmaster of Central 'School);* Miss Tankersley (West), Miss Callender (Solway), Messrs L. M. Leith (headmaster of Lansdowne), R. Boyes /West) and H. McFeely (Central). Apologies for absence were received from Mr. H. Parker Smith, headmaster of the West School and Mrs J. B. Ward, Gladstone. A programme of instrumental and vocal items was greatly enjoyed. The items were: Pianoforte solos, Miss B. Armstrong, Mr. H. B. Massey; recitation, Mrs R. Miller; vocal solos, Mesdames J. Conly, T. Corkill, Misses D. O’Donnell, H. Sumpter; Messrs W. C. Mann, R. O’Hallaran and Gnadinger; violin solo, Mr. Stuart Peterson. Reference was made to the impending departure of Misses B. and D. Armstrong, who are leaving on a seven months ’ holiday trip to England and of Miss G. Aplin, of the Carterton School, who has been transferred to Takaka. All joined in wishing them every success.
