HERD TESTING.

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Herd Testing Association was held at Greytown on Friday afternoon. All the groups were represented, and Mr. L. R. Wilton occupied the chair. Mr. C. M. Hume, Federation Supervisor of Herd Testing, advised that, if desired, he would be in the Wairarapa on August 15 or 18. It was decided to ask Mr. Hume to give an address at Carterton on Friday, August 5, at 1.30 p.m., and at Greytown at 8 p.m. The secretary mentioned that he was informed that in order to secure the subsidy it was necessary to furnish monthly averages in the different groups. This would entail considerable additional clerical work. Mr. James Watson considered that the subsidy should be administered by the Association and paid out at per cow. He instanced the fact that the cost to the Martinborough group was 4s per eow, while around Masterton the cost was 6s 5d per eow. He thought the subsidy should go to the weaker groups. The chairman stated that this matter was fully discussed at the federation meeting. The anomalies would in future be adjust’ed and the subsidy used for development purposes. It was pointed out by the secretary that a new system of computing butterfat records, by dropping the decimals, was now being adopted. It was agreed to adopt the system. Mr. J. Watson was re-elected auditor and Mr. L. R. Wilton chairman for the ensuing year. The secretary reported that the following calves had been marked last season:—Grey town, 213 heifers, 3 bulls; Gladstone, 200 heifers, 5 bulls; Featherston. 26 h'eifcrs; Martinborough, 58 heifers, 1 hull; total, 497 heifers, 9
