SCOUTS AND CUBS.
CELEBRATION of birthday THIS MONTH. FULL WEEK-END PROGRAMME. The seventh anniversary of the formation of the St. Matthew’s Scout Troop, of which Mr. J. C. Bobinson, now troop secretary, was first Scoutmaster, is to be celebrated. in the final week-end of this month. The St. Matthew’s Troop, recently expanded into two, was formed on August 31, 1923, so that it will be celebrating its seventh birthday at the end of this month. An effort is to be made, too, to bring together members of former Masterton Scout troops. On Friday evening, August 29, the St. Matthew’s Scouts and Cubs are to be entertained at high tea in the Den. On the following evening, there is to be a Scout and . Cub gathering in the St. Matthew’s Parish Hall. Oh this occasion there will be a complete demonstration of the investiture cere monies' for boys and officers and twe lady cubmasters will receive their warrants. Parents, supporters and the public generally will be invited to attend, this gathering. Members of the recently-formed Pahiatua Scout Troop are also to be invited and badges will be presented by the new president of the Wairarapa Troop Committee, the Rev. E. J. Rich, who was a scoutmaster in Taihape.
' Another function set down for Saturday, August 30, is a Reunion Tea for all former members of Scout troops in Masterton. This applies, not only to ex-members of ■ the St. Matthew’s troops, but to those who were members of the former Y.M.C.A. Troop and others. A list of all ex-Seouts is being compiled in order that they may be invited individually, but in the absence of some records the list cannot be completed. All former Scouts and all parents and others who can supply the names and addresses of former Scouts, are requested to communicate with the troop secretary, Mr. J. C. Robinson, 91 Church Street, Masterton. It is desired that the reunion should be as complete as possible. On Sunday, August 31, there will be a church parade at St. Matthew’s Church for Rovers, Scouts and Cujbs. At the service there will be a dedication of. new colours for the No. 2 Scout Troop and the No. 2 Cub Pack. The First Wellington Rover Troop is being invited to come to Masterton for the- week-end and the visitors, with the members of the Masterton Rover Troop, will camp at the Den during the period of the visit. The work of the Rovers is of great interest and it is hoped that a visit by the Wellington Troop may give an impetus to this section of the movement in Masterton. Mr. R. Nelson," District Scout Commissioner, has accepted an invitation to come to Masterton for the Birthday Week-end celebrations.
