PING PONG.
MASTERTON BEAT KOPUARANGA. INTER-CLUB 1 CONTEST. Some keenly-contested games of ping pong were seen in the Y.M.C.A. Gymnasium on Saturday night, when a team representing the Kopuaranga Ping Pong Club tried conclusions with the Masterton Winter Sports Club. The contest resulted in a win for Masterton by 30 games to 10, the totals in the various sections being: Men’s singles Masterton 6, Kopuaranga 4; ladies’ singles, Masterton 9, Kopuaranga 1combined doubles, Masterton 7, Kopuaranga 3; men’s doubles, Masterton 4 Kopuaranga 1; ladies’ doubles, Masterton 4, Kopuaranga 1. An anonymous donor gave two trophies to be awarded in tho combined doubles to the pair winning by the greatest margin of points, the prize being won by Miss M. O’Donnell and Mr. G. Masters. Supper was served at an interval in the games and the proceedings concluded with a dance, for which the music was played by Mr. A. Donald, of Kopuaranga. It was announced that it was hoped to arrange for two more inter-club contests between Masterton and Kopuaranga this season and that next Saturday the members of the Masterton Club would take part in a handicap singles tourney for trophies provided by the club.
