SOUTH WAIRARAPA ITEMS.
(“The Age” Special.) At tho annual meeting of the Martinborough Bowling Club the annual report, which recorded a successful year, showed the membership totals to be: 43 bowlers, 26 tennis players, and 14 croquet players. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, the Hon. A. D. McLeod; president, Mr S. Boyd; vicepresidents, Messrs A. Wright and F. I.ovegrove; secretary, Mr A. McGregor; treasurer, Mr. H. Madsen; committee, Messrs J. Lamb, W. McNally, W. Robson. H. Pryor, J. Jolly, J. Smith, W. Sleeth; auditors, Messrs A. 'Scott and M. R. Smith; delegates to centre, Messrs Boyd, Robson and McNally. It was decided to discontinue the charge nicde for lockers, and a recommendar* tion was made that an invitation be extended to the Petone Club to visit Martinborough during the season. A resolution was carried placing on record the benefits derived from the Summer Time Bill and regret expressed that it had been discontinued. Motor Union. The annual meeting of the North Island Motor Union will be held in Carterton on Friday. In the evening tite delegates will be entertained at dinner by the Wairarapa Automobile Association, and on Saturday morning will be motored round the district, and will visit the Kourarau hydro-electric power station. Druids’ Lodge. At a meeting of Totara Lodge oY Druids at Carterton, on Monday evening, a vote of condolence was passed with tho relatives of tho late Bro. J. Johnson P.D.P. Bro. P. J. Reid P.A., was nominated for the position of District President. An invitation ■.vas accepted from Fernlcaf Lodge, Greytown, to attend the twenty-jirst anniversary of the Lodge. A death benefit of £l2O was passed to a widow and the proceeds of a recent benefit ball is to be applied to releasing tho mortgage on the property of a Druids’ widow. Two maternity claims were passed for payment.
PIBINOA (“The Age” Special.) Mrs G. Hume, who has been visiting her daughter at Dannevirke, has returned home. Miss M. Reid, of Wellington, is the guest f Miss Mollie Hume. Mr. R. McDougall is visiting the South Island. The Pirinoa Dairy Factory opens today. The Lower Valley Factory started operations last Saturday. Mr. A. Reynolds,'a supplier to the Lower Valley Factory, is already supplying lOOOlbs. of milk per day. Mr R. Clark, of Tuhitarata, is at Nelson, where he has been for the past three weeks owing to the illness of his wife, who is a patient in the Nelson Hospital; The Pirinoa Golf Club is playing a return match with the Greytown Chib on the local links at the week-end. The County Council has had guards erected for the culvert bridge midway between Tauanui and the dairy factory. It was at this spot that a fatal accident occurred to a motorist last year. The annual general meeting of the | Pirinoa Dairy Company is to be held on Monday, August 20. The death occurred at Dunedin last week of Mr. Gardner, a brother cf Mr J. Gardner, of Burnside. Mr Gardner is at present in Dunedin.
