There was a lengthy debate in the House of Representatives yesterday on what the Leader of the Opposition described as the Heency-Tunney fight between the Racing Conference and the Broadcasting Company over the broadcasting of racing. Mr. Holland contended that if there was to be a veto on this broadcasting, it should be imposed by Parliament, and not by the Racing Conference. The Prime Minister’s contention that the dispute was a domestic one between the two bodies was supported by Mr. E. J. Howard, a Labour member, who said that it was no more possible to force the racing fraternity to broadcast its entertainment than to direct the Italian Opera Company to go on the air.—(Our Parliamentary Correspondent.)
