HOSPITAL ECONOMY.

REDUCTION IN ELECTRICAL COST Some comment was made at the meeting of the Wairarapa Power Board yesterday on the fact that the revenue obtained from the Masterton Hospital for the quarter ended June 30 last was £134 15s less than for the corresponding quarter of last year. The Secretary-Manager observed iu his report that this reduction of course affected their returns, but that tho Hospital Board was to be congratulated on l the very economical and efficient manner in which the electrical installation was being run. Mr. A. C. Pearce asked whether the board was making anything out of its contract with the Hospital Board. The channwn (Mr. J. W. Kershaw): “Yes. It is being sold in bulk.” He added that the fact that an even quantity of current was taken over the 24 hours accounted for the low cost. Mr. Pearce: “There can’t be very much in it.” The Secretary-Manager (Mr. F. Brown): “We can’t possibly lose. Wo are selling at £l4 per K.V.A. and Wying from the Government at £B. There is a certain margin over that.” Tho chairman said it must be very satisfactory to the Hospital Board that there was such a saving as compared with last year.. The position was ytisfactory also to the Power Board as showing that a large institution _cpuld be served economically.
