RUGBY FOOTBALL.
RED STAR CLUB. The annual meeting of the Bod Star Football Club was held last night, Mr R. J. Southgate presiding over an attendance of 47 members. The annual report stated that the club had had a good season. One championship was gained—the fifth grade— and the senior team was runner up. Good form was shown in all grades. Thanks were due to the vicepresidents, the coaches, the delegate to the Wairarapa Rugby Union (Mr J. O. Pinhey) and to the ladies’ committee. The balance sheet showed a cr. balance of £1 16/6. Eighteen new members were elected. Election of Officers. The following officers were elected; Patron, Mr T. Jordan; president, Mr D. J. Cameron; vice-presidents, Messrs R. McKenzie, F. A. •Jensen, P. McKenna, T. Caverhill, J. A. Betts, N. Gandy, T. Collerton, C. C. Ross, W. and A. Cameron, L. Haxton, A. J. Shepherd and F. C. Evans were added; delegates to Bugby Union, Messrs J. O. Pinhey, A.E. Freeman, and T. G. Vangioni; coaches, senior and junior left to management committee, thirds, Pi Murphy; fourths, F. Wellington; fifths, J. O’Leary; club-captain, J. O. Pinhey; 'hon._secretary, T. C. Wickens; assistant, T. O’Brien; hon. treasurer, A. E. Freeman; general committee, T. G. Vangioni, D. J. Beer, V. Flaws, R. Shackleton, J. Wing, B. Smith, J. O. Pinhey, J. Harman; selection committees, each team to select its own; delegate to Memorial Park Board, T. G. Vangioni.
It was decided to enter a team, in each grade, and to open the season on March 28.
Mr Pinhey asked the meeting for a lead in regard to the proposal to form a B grade.
The chairman said that he did not think the Rugby Union would entertain the idea, as it took them all their time to get enough senior teams as it was.
In regard to classification of lower grades, Mr Wing said that some players had been playing three and four yeses in the lower grades, who should have been moved up. Mr Southgate said that there must be a complaint before the Bugby Union would reclassify. It was done by the general committee. Mr Wing: I would like to see it done by a special committee. Mr Pinhey said that, if the secretaries of clubs did their duty the Union secretary would have the names of aM players in all grades. Then at the Union meeting these names could be seen and players who had been playing in one grade for four year! should be considered. The matter Was left to the delegates. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring secretary, the St. John Ambulance Brigade, the press, lady supporters and donors of trophies. Mr Vangioni referred to the bad lighting of the gymnasium and proposed that the Red Star and Masterton Clubs ask the Board to devote the money received from a match for the Styles Cup towards installing electric light.—Left to the committee. It was decided to hold the annual reunion on March 28. DALEFIELD CLUB. (“The Age” Special.) The annual meeting was held last night, Mr W. Bannin presiding. The balance sheet showed a credit of £ll 10/. It was decided to enter a junior team in the championship. The subscription was fixed at 5/, payable before fixtures commence. Black was decided upon for the club colour. Application is to be made to Mr W. Neilson for the use of a paddock. It was decided to try and arrange a match with the Greytown club before the competitions commence. Mr W. Adams offered a medal for the best forward during the season. Mr F. Groube is to bo asked to act as coach. It was decided to hold a dance on April 1. Mr T. Collerton’s medal for the most improved player was awarded to T. Bowe.
