WAIRARAPA’S ALL BLACKS.
WELCOMED AT FEATHERSTON.
A large gathering in Featherston yesterday afternoon welcomed Wairarapa ’s two All Blacks, Q. Donald and I. H. Harvey, who motored through from Wellington. Unfortunately the Rimutaka Hill paid no heed to the oecasion, a slip causing the party to walk for some distance, with a consequent late arrival. However, both men were accorded an enthusiastic welcome, and were the recipients of congratulations and good wishes from the large concourse of friends and admirers. The Mayor (Mr J. W. Card) opened the proceedings, and referred in eulogistic terms to the part played by the Wairarapa’s representatives in the making of Rugby history. He sympathised with Harvey in his succession of illnesses, but reminded him that the people of the Wairarapa were well aware of the high opinion held of his play in the early stages of the tour before he met his run of bad lack. Messrs J. Adamson (Featherston Football Club), E. McKenzie (Wairtirapa Rugby Union), and J. F. Thompson (Greytown) also spoke, expressing the district's appreciation of the manner in which its boys had upheld its good reputation. Both players suitably replied.
