A SPANISH NOVELIST.
SUMMONED FOR TREASON. A RECENT BOOK. MADRID, Dec. 17.—The novelist, Vicent Blascco Ibanez (author of “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse”), who is now resident abroad, and whoso pamphlet attacks on King Alphonso and tho Directory have greatly annoyed the Spanish Government, has been, summoned to appear before a military court within a fortnight to answer for the publication of his latest book “‘Alfonso XIH. and the Military Tenof* in Spain.” It is noteworthy that the Home Secretary,. recently questioned ‘in the British House of Commons about the book, denied that ho had prohibited the publication in England, but admitted that he caused enquiries to be made in regard to it. He was unable to secure a copy.—(A. and N.Z.)
