PERSONAL.
The Rev. G. T. Brown, of Palmer* ston North, has been visiting Dunedin* Constable P. Bartheben, who has been in charge of Tinui for the past 55 years, has been transferred to Port Nelson. He will be succeeded by Constable R. J. Wilson (Wanganui) who arrived in Wellington yesterday, and goes out to Tinui tjii» morning. Constable Wilson is one of the two officers who received the King’s Medal at Wanganui some time back for the arrest of dangerous burglars. Constable Berthelsen has the best wishes of settlers in the Tinui district in his new post, for which he left yesterday. Mr C. Spencer Compton, so wellknown in the musical world in Masterton, has just achieved a distinguished success in New South Wales. The Imereil Choral Society, of which he conductor, travelled by car 170 miles to take part in the musical festival at Armidale. This is one of the big musical festivals of New South Wales, and Mr Compton’s Society had a great success in winning the competition.
