SCHOOLS’ COMPETITION.
MANGOLD AND SWEDE GROWING. CBEYTOWN SCHOOL CHAMPION. (Our Travelling Reporter.) A representative gatlhering of Grey* town citizens met on Thursday to pre« sent the prizes for the mangold and swede growing schools’ competition, held under the auspices of the Farmers’' Union and -the Department of Agriculture. Mr W. A. Hutton, (Mayor of Greytown) presented the prizes. Sir H. Morrison (chairman Farmers’ Union), the Rev. Knowles Smith and Mr James Watson (secretary of tike Farmers’ Union) spoke, each impressing upon the children the desirability of fostering agriculture as the primary factor in the prosperity of New Zealand. The Greytown competitors were congratulated upon winning the Schools’ Championship for mangold growing in thh Wairarapa. The prize list is as follows:—Mangolds: Ist and champion—Joyce Haigh; 2nd, Lorna Haigh; 3rd Hugh Feast. Swedes: Ist,, Seaton Workman; 2nd, D. and G. McCrea; 3rd, J. Bull and W. Keltie. The championship was won by a girl competitor, and it is obvious that a great spirit of friendly rivalry will exist between the girls and boys of Greytown for the current season’s competition, for which there are 20 local competitors
