Mr W. B. Matheson (Rongomai) is visiting Wellington. Mr P. Quinlan, of Alfredton, is at present an inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital.

Mr C. C. Jackson has been elected chairman of the Masterton branch of the Farmers’ Union.

Mi" W. T. Grundy, who was in Wellington for the Education Board meeting, returned home last night. Mr J. A. Johnson, manager of th© Fatuma Island Company (Solomon Islands), is on a visit to Masterton. Colonel MacDonald (Levin) who was in Masterton for the woollen mills meeting yesterday, returned home today.

Mr Will. Appleton, of the Charles Haines Advertising Co., who was in Masterton yesterday, returns to Wellington this morning.

The vacancy as infant mistress at Lansdowne caused by the departure of Miss Haggett has been filled by the appointment of Miss W. F. Brown.

The provisional directorate of the Masterton Woollen Company consists of Messrs L. B. Maunsell, D. M. Graham, S. R. Gawith, H. H. Donald, J. L. Murray and W. R. Kemball. Messrs T. R. Barrer and C. C. Jackson have been elected to represent the Masterton branch of the Farmers’ Union at the Provincial Conference at Palmerston North next week.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Masterton branch of the Farmers’ Union a vote'of appreciation was passed in recognition of Mr Hugh Merrison’s service as chairman for many years. In moving the resolution Mr C. C. Jackson said Mr Morrison had given genuine advice which had been of valuable assistance to every agriculturist in the Dominion.
