THE WAIRARAPA SEAT.

MR. McLEOD interviewed. While in Masterton on Sunday, Mr A. D. McLeod, the member for Wai rarapa, was asked by “The Age” if he had any comment to offer in regard to the probable candidature of Mr J. W. Card.

“No,” said Mr McLeod, “beyond the fact that Mr Card would be s candidate worthy of every respect in any constituency in New’ Zealand.” As to Mr Mitchell’s henchman’s suggestion. that that gentleman should be asked to contest the Wairarapa, wefl, he (Mr McLeod) would welcome the present member for Wellington South as an. opponent. “If Mr Mitchell can beat me, good luck to him, it would at least give him a further three years in which to learn the etiquette us tally extended to fellow members when visiting their electorates, be they political friend or foe. One thing I guarantee him is, that he will not get

as solid a Reform vote behind him in Wairarapa as on the last occasion in Wellington South.”
