Mr W. H. Nagel, of Rongomai, has purchased a farm at Konini. Mr C. E. Daniell has returned from his visit to Auckland, in the course of which he attended the Methodist Conference. Mr F. G. Barnby, assistant master at the Dannevirke North School, ’ been appointed headmaster of flke Moutoa School, near Foxton. A London cable states that R. R. J. Saxon, a New Zealander, ran second in the final of the 100 yards at Cambridge University sports. Mr M. A. Hunted, manager of the Kaitaia branch of the Bank of Australasia, has been promoted to the managership of the bank’s Te Kuiti branch. Bro. Amos Tomlinson, High Chief Ruler of the Independent Order of Reohabites, will visit Master ton on Easter Saturday and Sunday, April 15 and 16. Professor William S. Vernon, late acting-professor of physics, University College, Auckland, has been appointed assistant lecturer in physios at Manchester University.

Mr Geo. Wood, a. soldier settler of Mangahao, who sustained . a severe injury to his ear a few days ago by being thrown out of a gig, is now recovering from the accident. The Prime Minister intends to leave for the South Island to-morrow, if possible, to fulfil a promise to visit Timaru and Lake Tekapo relative to the suggested establishment of a hydro-electric scheme.

Mr Arthur Charles Herbert, the well-known sheep farmer at Korora, Pongaroa, died suddenly on Saturday, aged 53. Deceased had manifested much interest in public life, and at the time of his death was chairman of the Akitio War Relief •Association, and of the Pongaroa Hdtepital Board, and a member of the Akitio County Council. The meeting of the Akitio County Council, which was to have been held on Saturday morning, was adjourned and the flag on the council chamber was flown at half-mast. Mr Herbert was present at the Waione sports on Friday and attended the dance in the evening, being apparently in his usual state of health. He leave a widow and three daughters—two of whom are married (iMJrs Munns and Mrs Moynahan, both of Pongaroa).
