CAMP AT WAINGAWA. K Squadron of the Legion of Frontiersmen went into camp on Friday <1 ght as stated in Saturday’s “Age,” or Mr Wardell’s property at Waingawa Gorge. They left town under Lieut. A. T. Whitehead, in motor cars and lorries lent by members of the squadron, and arrived at the camping place about 8.30. At once they turned to, and in a short time had a meal prepared and devoured. The evening was then spent round the camp fire telling yarns of the various campaigns ii> which the different m'embers of tYe squadron had seen service. They were various and interesting. Some had been in the South African war, some ar the South Pole, some in Alaska and Canada, and yarns and reminiscences lasted well into the night. The first thing on Saturday morn ing was the bathing parade, followe-1 by routine worluin camp, and the construction of a z ifle range for the yearly shoot, which took place in the afternoon under Squad. Sergt.-Major Ma<‘ millan. The shooting was at 200 yards and in spite of the very bad weather conditions it was very,good. On Satuday evening the usual monthly meeting of the squadron was held. On Sunday morning the squadron cup was fired for under active service conditions, the winner being Frontier man F. W. Kummer. Just before lunch Mrs Twistlcton, widow of the late commandant for New Zealand, and Miss Speedy, another lady member of the Legion, arrived, and the cup vras presented to the winner by the former. In the course of the afternoon there was some, fine shooting at rhe coloured disc, a very difficult target. Camp was broken at . 4.30 ami the frontiersmen returned to town after a most satisfactory camp. All are loud in their praises of the manner in which Q.M.S.
