FALSE PROPHETS.
False prophets have been known to th© world throughout all the ages. The Individual who prophesiod that something untoward would happon on December 17 succeeded in scaring seven days' growth out of certain wicked men and nervous womon. But the old world continued to revolve. Tho spots from the sun did not come into contact with this sublunary sphere—excepting, perhaps, by way of intensifying tho heat —and- everybody retired to rest quite happy. It is a pity that some people find nothing better to do than prophecy calamities. These prophecies servo no useful purpose. They invariably prove to bo false. And tho newspapers that give them publicity are encouraging a form of lunacy which becomes dangerous when practisod upon a sensitive community. The publication of astronomical prohpecies of an alarming character should bo absolutely forbidden.
