THE BOROUGH LOANS.

Although municipal matters have been overshadowed by the national issues that have of lato been under discussion, the ratepayers of Masterton havo a serious responsibility to-day. The Borough Council has submitted three proposals for loans involving over £70,000. One has roferenco to gas, another to streets, and a third to river protection. Opinions are, sharply divided as to whether tho whole or any of tho proposals will be carried. The MayOr has placed tho position clearly before tho ratepayers, and his responsibility closes here. The probabilities are that ono or two of tho "proposals will be .-carried, but it is not thought likely that the loan for streets will bo sanctioned at this juncture. Tlw ratepayers should give the matters very serious consideration, and should not neglect tho opportunity of recording their votes.
