HIGH SCHOOL SITE.

The question has been raised as to whether the fishponds site in Masterton is the most desirable for a Hi£h School. On this point there can scarcely be two opinions. The site contains twenty-six acres. It is outside the residential portion of the town, and in close proximity to a railway station. It is high and dry, and admirably served with springs. Its distance from tho centre of the town does not seem to be a matter of great concern. The pupils who attend it will be, as a rule, over sixteen years of age, and will bo provided with bicycles. The surroundings are in every way adapted to the cultivation of a fine and wholesome atmosphere. In the not far distant future we shall probably have a tramway service between Lansdowne and Solway. The proposal in regard to, the Cameron Memorial site has something to recommend it. But there are difficulties in the way, and it is questionable whether conflict would not arise between tho different controlling authorities. Taking all the circumstances into consideration, the Minister should have no hesitation in arriving at the conclusion that the fishponds site is the best adapted for the institution that he and the people of the district have in contemplation.
