MT HOLDSWORTH

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

A meeting of tho Mt) Holdsworth Committee was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms in Masterton on Monday evening. A letter was received from the Tourist Department, stating that £SO had been allocated for improvements to the Mt; Holdsworth track, the Mountain House, etc The Chairman (Mr E. Rose) stated that some of the Committee, with the help of the senior Y.M.C.A. Scouts, had carried up twelve new mattresses to the Mountain House. It waß' decided to repair the road and make new fascines and bridges, so that motor cars and lorries could go to thq bush. A rustic hut will be erected at t the foot, and the Mountain House will be put into thorough order, and the. swing bridge strengthened and made more convenient for ladies to cross. Mr O. Bannister reported that ICTTTT yearlings and 50,000 fjry had been liberated by the Acclimatisation Society m the Mangatarera stream. Deer-tracks were geeting numerous, especially by Donnelly's Camp, The Committee formed themselves into a *'working bee," and will be going up at different intervals during the summer months. The Committee will be pleased to receive offers ot help, and would like the loan of three or four slashers, m order to -cut the undergrowth near tho Mountain House. * The seniors of the Y.M.C.A. Scouts will be' asked to camp there again in January, in order to help Mr C. Bannister (under his leadership), who will be spending a fortnight ui repairing the road, clearing the track, etc. It is confidently anticipated that, when the Mt. Holdsworth district is better known, large numbers of he people of Masterton will avail themselves of the quiet, restfulness, and pretty scenes of the bush.
