It is believed that Mrs. Alma Steane, the society beauty, who committed suicide in her flat after the Victory Ball, was the offspring of the ex-Crown Prince Rudolf and Mario Kercera, who both committed suicide in 1899. The Empress Elizabeth took charge of the orphan, who, on the assassination of the Empress, was taken to America, the Emperor Francis Josef providing her with a fortune.
