CIVIC MATTERS AT NAPIER
TAKE A DRAMATIC H/HN. (By Telegraph—OPress Association.) -NAPIER, Last Night. A special meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held to-night to consider the charges brought by the Napier tramwaymen against the tramways manager, and it was decided to hold an inquiry into the whole matter. The mooting was a stormy one, and was held pa'-tly in committee. On resuming in open council the Mayor (Mr H. Hill) moved that Cr. A. McCarthy Mayor) be suspended. Or. McCathy called the Mayor a d d old woman, and then apologised. The Mayor refused to accept the apology, after Or. Mulvanah had moved that the police be sent for. As Cr. McCarthy refused to vacate his seat, a policeman was sent for, and Cr. McCarthy dared the policeman to remove him. The constable, however, assisted Cr. McCarthy from his chair and the latter toojk the constable's number and threatened proceedings against both th<* constable and the Council. He uien left the room, and Ihe meeting terminated shortly after.
